The
Urban Youth Empowerment Program is a youth career preparation
program rooted in work activities. It is a comprehensive
workforce development initiative to re-connect “high-risk”
out-of-school and/or adjudicated 18-21 year old youth with
education through employment. The program, along with our
partners, delivers the academic, career exploration and
personal development acumen that are prerequisites to launching
successful careers.
This
initiative is being funded through the Department of Labor
(DOL) to: (1) provide career preparation to “high
risk” out-of-school youth and or adjudicated youth
ages 18-21; and (2) place these youth in meaningful unsubsidized
employment.
Program
Participants:
-The program addresses the needs of thirty
“high risk”, out-of-school and or adjudicated
18 through 21 year old youth.
-Participants whose reading and math levels test at a 6.0
to 7.9. (Only for participants who do not possess a diploma
or GED)
-Selected youth will not be eligible if convicted of violent
offenses including: murder and non-negligent manslaughter,
rape, robbery, aggravated assault, larceny/theft in excess
of $5,000, arson and hate crimes
